January 28^th: Some kind of end of exam shindig (Paintballing/party/climbing/dancing… who knows)

February 1^st: Wednesday Climbing at MCC. We will be all meeting outside the union, just like the start of the year, at 1:15pm. This is a chance for anyone who has missed out to get involved!

February 3^rd,4^th,5^th: Winter skills

February 11^th, 12^th: Basic Trad Climbing Skills (setting up anchors/beginnings of leading), Advanced Climbing Skills (rescue techniques, hauling, escaping systems)

February 18^th or 19^th: A trip up to Scotland for some winter conditions (weather dependant)

March 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th: The unmissable Annual dinner (Weekend trip to the lakes)

March At some point SPA Train courses available over the free weekends.

March 30^th- April 8^th: Arco (A sport climbing trip to the Italian Dolomites north of Lake Garda)

April 7^th- 15^th: The classic font trip! (Bouldering in North France one of the most unmissable trips of the year)

Anyways back to Funkmasters which is the weekend of 4^th 5^th and 6^th Nov (last weekend of reading week apparently!? I don’t get one! L)This will be one of the year’s most epic weekends, as we all grab our funkiest threads and invade Wales for the weekend! The price will be £20 for the weekend including travel and food on sat night!

If you’re new to the club then this weekend is something to behold! Fancy dress is again not optional for the journey down on the Friday night. We will find some sustenance on the way usually a chippy tea! Ready for a weekend crushing some of the hardest routes of the UK such as Upside Down Funnel E11 6a and Table Boulder V1-V10 (Mountain Faced dependant)

We will of course be getting very Drunk on the Friday night and again on the Saturday night so make sure you bring enough to keep the blood alcohol level up! Tea will be provided on Saturday evening cooked by yours truly!(Chile?) There will be a veggie option, any other dietary requirements and we will need to know well in advance!!!!

During the day on Saturday and Sunday you will get the chance to climb in various places around Wales depending on the weather and conditions of the drivers! Heroes will climb in fancy dress! We leave the hut on Sunday morning with all the stuff so after a hard day of climbing we can head straight back to Manchester ready for lectures on Monday!

You will need:

·         Clothes for the weekend!

·         Drink

·         Breakfast and Packed lunch for two days

·         Lots of psyche!

·         Sleeping Bag and Matts

·         Overnight stuff (Towel etc.)

As we are quickly approaching winter warm and waterproof clothes are suggested! Along with your awesome flares obviously!

The mini bus will be leaving from the Armitage car park at 18.00 4^th November returning on 6^th around 10pm-ish. There are limited spaces on the busses so first to pay get the places! I will be taking money in the Oxford on Thursday night!!!! Be there or you may not get on the list!

Hi everyone! Just a little reminder that we are all headed down to Rockover tomorrow night. Rockover is the bouldering wall in Manchester, if you don’t know what bouldering is or what it’s about then read ahead, otherwise skip a paragraph!

Bouldering is the art of being awesome and not needing a rope, focusing on hard moves and generally crushing at relatively low heights! It was initially developed by climbers as a warm up by climbing nearby boulders. It has slowly evolved into a completely separate area of the sport loved by the great, hated by the weak! But seriously, it’s a great way to train and chill out with friends without needing to know how to lead or belay, giving you chance to develop your technique and strength. The aim is simple, go from the bottom holds to the top, using the holds in-between if needed!

Don’t feel shy, come along, we will be meeting outside Burger King in Piccadilly gardens tomorrow

Kick back, relax, enjoy and maybe do some bouldering while you’re there. Please also note that if you have not yet had the chance to rejoin the club this year you won’t be on the cheaper climbing list and ineligible for the £4 climbing. This is a great chance to get involved again, well before Funkmasters when you know you won’t be able to resist, and get the ropes or kit you’ll need for the rest of the year.

Tomorrow, today or whatever point in time you class 9pm Thursday the 6^th of October as, we will be meeting at the Oxford not jabez clegg. I shall repeat that encase anyone has forgotten that you can simply reread sections of emails, THE OXFORD NOT JABEZ CLEGG! The change has been made in order to drive costs down for our members and we will see how the chance works for us as a club. Also that I made another mistake in my last email and that is that there will not be a trip this weekend as we are organising the meet at Rockover on Monday how foolish of me, apparently there is only so much one committee can do in one week! Information about this will be released on Friday.

Hope you’re all recovering from fresher’s week and a very wet but successful Froggatt trip on Sunday! You should now be ready to get your drink on again as this Wednesday we are selling tickets for the AU (Athletic Union) night at Tiger Tiger! This week is bound to be a big night out as it’s the Varsity Rugby game. The fancy-dress theme is OAPs so get your Zimmer frames, wigs and colostomy bags out and ready to rave. We will be meeting at OP bar (Owens Park (The big fuck off tower in Fallowfield)) at around half eight ready to sell any remainder tickets we have! (Probably not many as it will be a big night )

I apologise in advance if this has been sent out already, due to having no internet I’ve no idea if dylan has managed to send this email out on my behalf so seeing how I’m in the library I’d thought I’d send it out to make sure everyone has the details.

For those who have signed up to the trip this Sunday (25.09.11), here’s some information! The coach is leaving at 9am from the Student’s Union and then heading down to the Armitage Car Park (near the hockey pitches behind OP) for 9:30am, from there we’ll head over to Froggatt Edge! Please can you get there 10 minutes early to avoid any problems; if you’ve got any problems before hand and can’t make it (hung over, ill etc) please let us know before we leave!

When we get there everyone will be split into groups depending on there experience and then partnered with an experienced member of the club. You’ll then head over to the crag and have a full day climbing! Afterwards we’ll head over to The Grouse pub for a fantastic meal and a few drinking games to break the ice with fellow members!

You’ll need to bring:

·           -  Warm clothing

·           -  Waterproof clothing

·           -  Rock shoe’s (if you have them, don’t worry if you haven’t)

·           -  Any climbing equipment you have (harness, helmet, belay etc)

·           -  Packed lunch and water for the day

We definitely didn’t think we would win but when the points were added up we had a happy surprise.

Well done Sarah Rixham who won the female leading, Franco who won the male leading and myself for winning the female bouldering despite climbing shockingly appallingly bad.

And to everyone else for competing.. thanks for coming and showing off your bulging biceps, abs of iron, nerves of steel, finesse of technique, accuracy of footwork.. etc. I was proud.
