Adding Posts

(For Committee)

You will be able to use your log ins to add posts to the front page, at the same time as you email out about events and whatever.

So!

Go to the homepage, and on the left hand side near the bottom you will see Log in, press it

Use the Username and password I will sent out, let me know if you require a username.

This is the back end of the site, it’s running on WordPress which is a very popular blogging website content management system. It may look a bit complicated but it’s fairly straight forward once you’ve had a bit of a play.

First task:

Change your password > Go to profile on the left hand side, change password is near the bottom of the profile page.

You are now setup to post!

I’ll let you figure out what you think is relevant to post, but bear in mind that whatever is posted last, goes on the top. I suggest anything that goes out via email can go up on the front page, especially info about trips etc. The more in advance the better.

A bit of info:

You will mainly be adding posts. Posts can have tags. Tags sit at the bottom of posts and help categorise the news in them. Tags which we use at the moment are: General, Official Business, Events and Website. Feel free to add more.

The Events tag is special, things tagged with Event will be added into the calendar on the right, and not appear on the main feed (so you will need an events tagged post and a new post without the event tag to add something to both the calendar and the main page, simples). I have pre filled the calendar with events from the google calendar, but they may not be correct.

If you are adding an event, please check in the calendar on the site to see if it exists, if not add it using the event editor at the bottom of the Add new post section:

The Event name will be the title of the post.

Just to clarify, you can post an event to the calendar at any time (years, months in advance – it wont appear on the main page), and then nearer the time copy the text from your email and forum post into a new post on the main page to rally people up for that event nearer the time.

OK that’s probably enough to get you going, please feel free to ask anything, I’m usually about to reply so don’t worry if you mess something up, it’s all easily fixed!

Take it easy,

Ewan
